Dissolve the Fat       No Surgery

LIPODISSOLVE is a new non- surgical cosmetic therapy developed to dissolve unwanted fat.

LipoDissolve is a clinically proven way to breakdown and emulsify the fat deposits from areas of the body including the abdomen, hips, thighs, back and chin.  The procedure is low pain, with a fast recovery time and very affordable. Procedures routinely take less than an half hour, making this therapy quick and easy. Lipodissolve uses a mixture of medications which are microinjected into fat deposits. The stubborn fat deposits resistant to diet and exercise are dissolved and naturally expelled from the body. Although no type of treatment is a substitute for dieting and exercise, lipodissolve can reduce stubborn areas of fat that don't respond to traditional weight-loss methods.

If you're considering lipodissolve, the brochure below will give you a basic understanding of the procedure -- when it can help, how it is performed and how you might look and feel after surgery. It won't answer all of your questions, since much depends on your individual circumstances. Please ask Dr. Rieger if there is anything about the procedure you don't understand. Note all treatments are performed by Dr. Rieger MD, a board certified plastic surgeon. Please Call 316 - 652 -9333 for a consultation for LipoDissolve in Wichita, Kansas.

Lipodissolve is a treatment utilizing a combination of compounds injected for the purpose of fat reduction. The main ingredient in Lipodissolve is phosphatidylcholine. Phosphatidylcholine is a natural product found in our body. Its main role in the body is to help emulsify and breakdown fat. The phosphatidylcholine that is used is derive from soybeans. LipoDissolve has not been approved  or intensely tested by the FDA for fat reduction cosmetic purposes. The application of LipoDissolve for cosmetic purposes as noted in this brochure is consider "off- label" use. " Off-label" means that it has been approved or occurs naturally for one purpose, but doctors are using it for a different purpose. It has been used for reducing fat deposits for many years. It has been used intravenously to dissolve plaques in cardiac disease and to dissolve fat embolism.

To be a good candidate for LipoDissolve, you must have realistic expectations about what the procedure can do for you. It is not a treatment for weight reduction but for reducing localized fat. It's important to understand that LipoDissolve can enhance your appearance and self confidence, but it won't necessarily change your looks to match your ideal or cause other people to treat you differently. Before you decide to have LipoDissolve, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them with your surgeon.

The best candidates for LipoDissolve are normal-weight people (Body Mass Index (BMI) less than 30) with firm, elastic skin who have pockets of excess fat in certain areas. Click below to calculate your BMI using an online CDC calculator.

You should be physically healthy, psychologically stable and realistic in your expectations. Your age is not a major consideration; however, older patients may have diminished skin elasticity and may not achieve the same results as a younger patient with tighter skin.

LipoDissolve is not for individuals with significant medical problems such as diabetes, kidney disease, liver disease,  significant heart or lung disease, poor blood circulation,  HIV,  hepatitis, autoimmune diseases and bleeding disorders. Patients who are pregnant,  breast feeding, or planning on pregnancy in the near future are not suitable for LipoDissolve.  Allergy to soy or any of the medications in Lipodissolve would also make a patient not a candidate for Lipodissolve. If you recently had surgery near the area to be contoured you should wait to have lipodissolve.

Healthy, normal-weight people with elastic skin and pockets of excess fat are good candidates for surgery.

The best candidates for lipodissolve are of normal weight with localized areas of excess fat-- for example, in the hips, and thighs.

In your initial consultation,  Dr. Rieger will evaluate your health, determine where your fat deposits lie and assess the condition of your skin. He  will explain the body-contouring methods that may be most appropriate for you. For example, if you believe you want lipodissolve in the abdominal area, you may learn that an abdominoplasty or "tummy tuck" may more effectively meet your goals; or that a combination of traditional liposuction would be the best choice for you.

Be frank in discussing your expectations with your surgeon. He or she should be equally frank with you, describing the procedure in detail and explaining its risks and limitations.

Your surgeon will give you specific instructions on how to prepare for treatment, including guidelines on eating and drinking, smoking, and taking or avoiding vitamins, iron tablets and certain medications. If you develop a cold or an infection of any kind, especially a skin infection, your treatment may have to be postponed

Dr. Rieger will personally perform your lipodissolve treatments in his private office in Wichita, Kansas. No anesthesia is required for the therapy.

The treatment consists of simply placing several injections in fat area(s) to be reduced using a small needle. Most people experience only mild discomfort that is very tolerable. No anesthesia is required. Common side effects with lipodissolve are a burning or stinging sensation that frequently lasts for up to an hour after the injections. Taking Tylenol (not Motrin) before treatment can help minimize this side effect of Lipodissolve. Some patients will notice bruising or discoloration with lipodissolve that fades with time. All patients experience mild to significant swelling and redness in the treated area. This in normal and expected. The majority of the swelling will subside after 3 days. Occasionally, an itching sensation is described as the inflammation resolves, taking Benadryl can help alleviate this, but do not drive or operate machinery after taking Benadryl as it is a sedative. Patients will also notice the formation of slightly tender lumps or nodules under the skin, which is expected as the fat is dissolved. This reaction is temporary. The frequency of your treatments will depend on the body area and how much fat needs to be dissolved. Typically patients will return every 2 - 4 weeks for 3 - 6 treatments. On the average, patients begin to see noticeable improvement after 2-4 sessions. While many experience results sooner, we cannot guarantee this. Patients feel "bloated" for the first several weeks and this is expected and only temporary. Once the body begins metabolizing the fat, contour improvement occurs.

LipoDissolve is normally safe, as long as patients are carefully selected, facility is properly equipped and the physician is adequately trained.  It's important to keep in mind that even though a well-trained surgeon and a state-of-the art facility can improve your chance of having a good result, there are no guarantees. Though they are rare, complications can and do occur.

Side effects and potential risks associated with Lipodissolve treatment includes but not limited to : redness, swelling, bruising, itching, bruising, localized heat. tenderness, temporary nodule formation, diarrhea, numbness, and intermenstrual bleeding. Serious complications can possibly occur and may include but not limited to : infection, ulceration, hematoma, anaphylactic shock, scarring, permanent discoloration, and numbness.  The skin surface may be irregular, asymmetric or even "baggy," especially in the older patient.

One of the advantages of LipoDissolve is that you may typically return to normal activity sooner than after surgery. Some tenderness and discomfort is to be expected. Don't expect to look or feel great right afterwards. After therapy, you will likely experience some swelling. To control swelling and discomfort you may consider pantyhose or other garments to wear over the treated area for a few weeks.

You may still experience some pain, burning, swelling, bleeding and temporary numbness. Pain can be controlled with Tylenol however your plastic surgeon can prescribe other pain medications if needed.

It is normal to feel a bit anxious or depressed in the days or weeks following therapy. However, this feeling will subside as you begin to look and feel better.

Healing is a gradual process. Your plastic surgeon will probably tell you to start walking around as soon as possible to reduce swelling and to help prevent blood clots from forming in your legs. You will begin to feel better after about a week or two and you should be back at work within one to two days following your Lipodissolve.  Most patients generally go back to work the next day.

Activity that is more strenuous should be avoided for about a week as your body continues to heal. Although most of the bruising and swelling usually disappears within a few weeks, some swelling or nodules may remain for six months or more.

Improvement will become apparent after about six weeks, when most of the swelling has subsided.

Your surgeon will schedule follow-up visits to monitor your progress and to see if any additional procedures are needed.

If you have any unusual symptoms between visits -- for example, fever, severe pain, increasing redness, persistent diarrhea for more than two days, ulcers, blisters, and /or a sudden increase in pain -- or any problems or questions , call Dr. Rieger at 316-652-9333.

You should  see a noticeable difference in the shape of your body after a few sessions. The number of sessions required will depend on the area(s) being treated. Some areas may only need 2 -3 sessions, while others may need about 4 - 6 sessions.  The final contour will be visible after completing all sessions and after any mild persistent swelling resolves.

As healing progresses, a more proportional look will emerge. A slimmer body contour can help you feel more confident and comfortable.

If your expectations are realistic, you will probably be very pleased with the results of your LipoDissolve. You may find that you are more comfortable in a wide variety of clothes and more at ease with your body. And, by eating a healthy diet and getting regular exercise, you can help to maintain your new shape.

Some lipodissolve centers may offer guarantees. Please carefully research the criteria for the guarantees, packages and prices involved. Also carefully research other treatments for reducing fat like lymphatic, suction, ultrasound, laser and light based machines. Dr. Rieger does not offer any of these machines.

Individuals considering lipodissolve often feel a bit overwhelmed by the number of options and techniques being promoted today. However, your plastic surgeon can help. In deciding which is the right treatment approach for you, your doctor will consider effectiveness, safety, cost and appropriateness for your needs. This is called medical judgment, a skill that is developed through surgical training and experience. Your doctor also uses this judgment to prevent complications; to handle unexpected occurrences during treatment; and to treat complications when they occur.

Your surgeon's education and training have helped to form his or her surgical judgment, so take the time to do some background checking. Patients are encouraged to consider a doctor certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery ("ABPS"). By choosing a plastic surgeon who is certified by the ABPS, a patient can be assured that the doctor has graduated from an accredited medical school and completed at least five years of additional residency - usually three years of general surgery (or its equivalent) and two years of plastic surgery. To be certified by the ABPS, a doctor must also practice surgery for two years and pass comprehensive written and oral exams. Dr. Rieger is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

Liposuction is a surgery and requires anesthesia. Lipodissolve is non surgical and does not require anesthesia and the risks associated with surgery or anesthesia.

It is possible to treat multiple areas simultaneously with liposuction, however generally only one area can be treated per session with Lipodissolve. A greater amount of fat removal is possible in one treatment with liposuction. The effects are more gradual with lipodissolve.
